Mix 4 parts very warm, (but not hot) water with one part dish detergent and one part salt. Be very careful not to use very hot water or boiling water as this will cause your piece to break. Submerge your piece in this homebrew overnight. Rinse thoroughly in very warm water. This homebrew will eliminate the majority (not all!) of residue from your pipe. If you have a stubborn area that refuses to clean up, fill the pipe with homebrew cleaner and add a teaspoon of coarse grind salt, then shake vigorously. The coarse salt will act as a gentle abrasive and should help to clean the stubborn spots. Pipe cleaners and q-tips will also be useful to work on areas where there is residue.
