The Best and Easiest Way to Clean Your Bong

Just like the rubbish needs taken out, and the cat’s litter box needs emptied, you’re going to need to give your much loved bong, a good scrub every once in a while. After time, a heavily used bong can build up nasty residue and even emit unpleasant odors.
And, this isn’t even the worse bit, the build up in your device can eventually taint the taste of your hits, have negative effects on your health, and shorten bong life expectancy. Also, you owe it to your friends to keep that thing clean before taking it out at parties!
Whilst cleaning your bong might seem like a bit of a mammoth task, it’s a lot easier than you think and the cleaning materials won’t cost you very much. Keep reading to check out everything you will need and some easy steps to ensure you are getting the very most out of your bong.
All you will need is a little patience and some elbow grease!
A Step-to-Step How To:
Equipment
- Latex gloves (important to keep odour out)
- Tongs
- Cotton buds or pipe cleaners
- Large plastic bag(s)
- Isopropyl
- Salt
Method
1. Disassemble your bong
Take apart your device, remove every piece and store each in a safe place until they are ready to be cleaned. A good thorough cleaning will require some tough scrubbing and this could possibly damage your bong. So make sure to set all parts aside to be cleaned separately.
2. Leave the larger pieces to soak
Fill a large bowl or dish with warm water and allow the larger pieces to soak. This should help remove any caked on chunks of dirt. If you cannot properly grip your bong in the water you can use a pair of tongs to hold it upright. And, if your bong is a cold-piece you should use lukewarm water instead, as hot water can cause the glass to shatter.
3. Use the cotton buds or pipe cleaners for stubborn pieces of dirt
Tackle the largest pieces first and try to initially clean some of the resin and dirt off. Use cotton buds or for hard to reach and awkwardly shaped parts use the pipe cleaners. If there are bits of dirt which still aren’t coming off don’t worry, we’ll get back to these later.
4. Soak the smaller pieces in your plastic bag
For the smaller bits, place in a bag again with warm water just to loosen up any dirt or grime stuck to them. If you think some of the smaller pieces are too fragile, separate these into different bags. For larger parts, one bag or a large bowl will work fine.
5. Fill the bag with rubbing alcohol
Rubbing alcohol such as isopropyl can be very effective at removing any remaining residue. If you don’t have this you can also use some household vinegar, the alkali will do a great job at removing stubborn stains.
6. Add a tablespoon of salt to the bag
Adding salt will act as an abrasive to remove any remaining grime. And because there is alcohol in that bag, the salt shouldn’t dissolve.
7. Lightly shake the bag
Lightly shake your bag but be careful not to do this too hard as you could risk breaking or cracking fragile parts. Try to shake gently for around two minutes or until your parts are visibly clean.
8. Leave the bag to soak for several hours if the stains are persistent
This is where you’ll have to exercise some patience. If after several hours there are still some persistent stains or resin on the pieces then remove the dirty piece from the bag and use a cotton bud or pipe cleaner to clean thoroughly.
9. Rinse all the pieces
Rinse any remaining salt, alcohol, or residue off your product’s part in the sink with some warm water. You might want to dispose of the liquid in the bag down the toilet or in the bin as it has been known to block sinks.
Fill the larger bong pieces with salt water and shake it to remove the excess dirt
Plug all the holes in your bong with tissue paper or cover them with cling film before adding the salt water and giving it a good shake. Empty this into the sink and rinse once again.
And there you have it, your bong should be looking (and smelling), as good as new!
